Dining at Coronado’s Sun Deck Bar & Grill is kind of like being a guest inside the online game of Beach Party Craze except we are the one paying the money and we are also our own server.
Yes, that’s correct. Self service. I think I read some online reviews elsewhere that there were some (rude) waiters around, but I didn’t see ANY on our visit. I thought that was kind of odd for a nice place inside the Hotel Del, but what do I know. 😉 Anyway, rude waiters we can do without, so maybe we were lucky not to see any…
We actually wanted to eat at one of the restaurants inside the hotel, but due to sightseeing, we came at an odd time. It was a little after lunch service and a few hours before dinner, so nothing was open except for the bar and Sun Deck Bar & Grill.
We also opted for Sun Deck because we saw the lovely outdoor setting with a beach view. I think I got really wide-eyed and a bit too excitable when we saw the beautiful beach area, so G relented and said, why don’t we just grab a snack and sit here a while and have dinner elsewhere, okay?
Okay!!!
This Bar & Grill serves mainly alcohol, hamburgers, hotdogs, chicken sandwiches, salads (?) and fries.
On this visit, we had the foot long hot dog ($12!), chili cheese fries ($14!) and Mojito ($12.75). I normally don’t blog about what we paid for food, but I am on this one because the prices seem a bit ridiculous for the type of food we got. Since G paid for the food here, I have no idea what the exact amount is after taxes and I just made a quick tally of what I saw on the board. Hopefully my memory is correct on the prices and I didn’t switch the prices around. We thought the food was just very standard… However, this is probably the cheapest meal you can get at The Del though we think if the ingredients are better, we wouldn’t mind.
Hot dog was just an okay hotdog like the kind you can have anywhere. G calls it “movie theatre food.” We don’t eat it very often, so it was an okay treat. Chili cheese fries were good though nothing to write home about. He describes it as lukewarm. The Mojito was good. Probably the best out of the 3 things.
If you want to sit at the sun deck and enjoy some food & drinks (daily from 11:30 a.m. to Sunset), this is the place for you. If not, go directly to the white sand beach where we will be going soon in our next post (?) or so…

Mmm, chili cheese fries sound yummy but you’re right about the prices! Sounds like you were paying for the view – was it worth it?
We were definitely paying for the view. It was worth it this time although when we go back, I will probably head directly to the beach and eat after at one of the restaurants nearby. It may still be expensive, but I won’t be eating a hotdog and fries. Lol.
A $12 hot dog?!
What a rip off!
OK, I will pack my own lunch if I ever go to the Del in the future. 😉
That’s probably what we should have done LC if we knew about this ahead of time. You just can’t see at the sun deck though, but a picnic at the beach sounds lovely. 🙂
The prices sound so extravagant – seriously a hot dog is not the classiest food in the world!
I think should I visit I’ll just bring a picnic and enjoy the sun on beach 😉
Cheers

Hi CCU, exactly! A picnic is a lovely idea! Maybe we should do a virtual picnic weekend one day…
Great Place to Relax and Grab a Bite – thanks for sharing:)
It’s a nice place to people watch. 🙂
Those prices are exorbitant. Love the view of the beach!
The view’s fab! 🙂
I don’t think the food is anything special, but the view certainly makes up for it (as well as any rude waiters).
Spectacular view!
