What’s a trip to Portland, OR without venturing into Voodoo Doughnut?
The doughnuts are yummy and some of them are weird-looking… Did we get any weird ones? Probably not. Unless you count the bacon on maple bar doughnut weird. We think it’s normal, so maybe we are the weird ones. While waiting in line, we looked across the street and saw the “Keep Portland Weird” sign. Oh look honey, didn’t we see that in Portlandia?! Hm..yeah.
Fueled by all the sugar and carbs, we decided we were going to go hiking!
While we like the metro service in downtown PDX, their buses (while clean and bus drivers seem nice) are seriously lacking. We got dropped off 2x in the middle of their route and were told that the bus behind them would take us to where we wanted to go. Should have taken that as a clue that something wasn’t right, but I’m apparently determined (dense), so we kept waiting and finally got on a bus that dropped us off in the middle of nowhere. We then hiked up for what seemed like an hour (actually maybe 30 minutes) to Pittock Mansion.
The hike up was nice, got to see some houses along the way and beautiful trees. There were some stressful parts coming down, but I won’t bore you all with that. What I will tell you was that everyone I spoke with before we went on our trip told us to wear more clothes because Portland is cold, but when we got there, it was 90 degrees and sweat-inducing hot. It was just incredibly weird.
The house itself is nice. I will not post the photos I took of the inside as I did take note of their “no flash” rule and did not take them with flash, and they all came out looking rather dull. Anyway, I am just sharing the photos of the outside.
The view on the outside is really lovely. In the distance, we saw Mt. Hood with the snow-capped top. What a lovely sight to behold and somewhat worth the trouble we had to go through that day.
Pittock Mansion is located at 3229 NW Pittock Dr., Portland, OR
Happy Memorial Day Weekend! Remembering all those that served! God Bless!
